AI Doom Fanfic Spooked Brussels. Its $100B Proof Collapsed in February.

A Brussels thinktank that hides its funders spun a viral AI-doom scenario from giant deals that already collapsed, and a sitting MEP calls it manufactured alarm.

A Brussels outfit called Arq Foundation, which will not say who funds it, published Europe 2031, a fictional tale where the US and China carve up a continent too complacent to build its own AI, and it went viral enough to reach European lawmakers and British-German talks. Its proof of unstoppable American dominance leaned on a stack of giant deals, headlined by a $100 billion OpenAI and Nvidia pact that evaporated in February while OpenAI reportedly stayed billions of dollars underwater. Spanish MEP Nicolas Casares called it inflated alarm built to stampede Europe into deregulating datacentres it would erect for Americans to use and sometimes be barred from itself. The scariest thing about your f*ucking AI turns out to be the doom fan fiction written to sell more of it. Read Aisha Downโ€™s report, at The Guardian.
