Patreon flipped on network-level blocking of known AI training crawlers across every post, built on Cloudflare, so the bots hoovering up creators’ work for free hit a wall. Patreon announced on Thursday that it’s partnering with Cloudflare to block crawlers from stealing creators’ work to train AI models. CEO Jack Conte put the reasoning plainly, arguing creators get none of the three things they deserve from AI companies: consent to opt out of training, credit when a model replicates their vibe, and compensation when it happens, and the answer to all three right now is a big fat no.
